Creekside Residence
QuarryHouse worked with Bohlin, Cywinski, Jackson Architects for this modern dwelling located in a secluded redwood grove. A dramatic three-story library acts as the focal point of the home. Centered on the glass wall the massive stone fireplace blends with the floor. The architect envisioned a corduroy-like finish to the mantle and floor. QuarryHouse recommended Ink Jade Limestone from China's Hunan province. Jet black with very fine white veins, it carved beautifully and was the perfect counterpoint to the wood cabinetry and trim selected for the interiors. QuarryHouse traveled with the design team to Hunan to see firsthand the remote quarry site and the challenge of carving stone.
